Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)
Dental care with no out-of-pocket cost
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) provides eligible children aged 0–17 with $1,158 in benefits over a two-year period to help cover the cost of eligible dental treatment.
At Ipswich Kids Dentist, we bulk-bill CDBS treatment up to your child’s available benefit. Before treatment, we’ll explain the proposed treatment, what CDBS covers, and any expected costs if applicable.
About CDBS
Who is eligible for CDBS?
Your child must be eligible for Medicare and aged 0–17. Eligibility is also based on your family’s income and your child’s enrolment in school.
Your family must receive an approved payment, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A, Parenting Payment or Double Orphan Pension, for at least one day in the calendar year.
What does the CDBS cover?
The CDBS can cover a range of eligible dental services provided in our clinic, including:
- Dental examinations
- X-rays
- Professional cleaning
- Fluoride applications
- Fissure sealants
- Fillings
- Root canal therapy
- Tooth extractions
Note: CDBS does not cover all dental services or hospital-based dental treatment.
What is NOT covered by CDBS?
The CDBS does not cover:
- Orthodontic dental work
- Cosmetic dental work
- Dental services provided in hospital
If your child’s treatment costs more than their available CDBS benefit, we will bulk bill the available CDBS amount and you will need to pay the remaining balance at the time of the appointment.
Understanding CDBS Bulk Billing
We bulk bill eligible CDBS dental treatment up to your child’s available CDBS benefit, so there is no out-of-pocket cost for the amount covered by CDBS.
